Arthur Debert

Arthur Debert *1990 in Paris, lives and works in Paris and Berlin. His multidisciplinary work takes shape in collaboration and exchange. He questions the transmission and the survival of knowledge that are inscribed in individual anecdotes, collective memories and technology. He dissects performative aspects of objects bearing knowledge and their transitioning processes and transcribes them into installations, videos and editions. At Catalyst, Arthur leads workshops on image composition.

After graduating from the Art school of Lorraine in Epinal and Metz (FR), Debert participated in the postgraduate program Ecole Offshore with ENSAD-Nancy in Shanghai (2014-15). He co-directed the project space Babel in Berlin (2017-18) and is involved in multiple interdisciplinary collectives such as WMAN - research group on art and video-games (since 2020 ongoing) and Wuthering, a radiophonic theater duo (since 2017 ongoing).

His work was presented at various international institutions: Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken, Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain, La Kunsthalle Mulhouse, Kunsthaus Interlaken (Switzerland), Le Granit (Belfort) and independent art spaces such as LAGE EGAL (Berlin), Korai Project Space (Cyprus), Galerie My Monkey (Nancy), Octopus (Paris), Bazaar Compatible Program (Shanghai). He was the finalist at the Berlin Art Prize 2018 and participated in the video festivals Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Ann Arbor Film Festival (Michigan), Video ArtGarden (Timisoara), Oodaaq Festival (Rennes) and was awarded at the Berlin Independent Film Festival in 2023.
