Ricardo Tovar Mateus

Originally from Colombia, Ricardo has been in Berlin (and Catalyst) since 2023. Ricardo is exceptionally well travelled – having performed and studied in five continents. He has a practice that reflect this world view, combining ideas of diverse culture and heritage with popular music.

Ricardo holds an MA in Composition from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and a Doctorate in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. His doctoral research focused on multimedia installations using multi-projection video and multi-channel sound to explore the transformative effects of art on public perception.

When he isn't performing or creating installations, Ricardo uses his artistic identity MATEUS to integrates electronic, classical and cinematic soundtracks, often reflecting his Latin heritage. His performances span DJ sets to ensemble arrangements, and his work has been showcased at venues like the “Planetario de Bogotá”, and “Porgy and Bess” in Vienna.
