Patrick Watt

Admissions partner

Patrick was born in Essex, honed in Bristol and now resides in Berlin, in a flight of fancy that got out of control. Beguiled by the city’s effervescent creativity and armed with a new Irish passport, he’s not going anywhere.

After years spent writing songs and playing in bands around London, Patrick completed a Masters in ‘Commercial Music’ at Bath Spa University (no, that doesn’t mean music for adverts), where he discovered his passion for creative music education. Whilst he can often be found on piano, bass or drums, it is the guitar that has occupied most of Patrick’s time. In addition to playing on his own and others’ music, Patrick has been teaching guitar for over ten years and still gets a kick watching his students nail a gnarly jazz chord or fingerpicking technique during their lessons.

Patrick joined Catalyst’s Admissions Team in March 2024 and oversees the admissions for the School of Music & Sound, reviewing applications and looking out for that distinct spark found in Catalyst students. He likes to think of himself as the Sven Marquardt of Catalyst without the photography skills or commitment to face tattoos. When he’s not poring over applications, you’ll find Patrick struggling to think of new jokes leading one of our facilities tours, planning open days or desperately struggling to put faces to names during Welcome Week.

Beyond music and Catalyst, feels most comfortable in the kitchen cooking, in lakes swimming  and in certain clubs dancing. He also has a knack for accents, particularly British and Irish ones, which he will take any opportunity to show off - and I mean any opportunity. If he has a life philosophy, it’s that true salvation lies only in kindness and creativity. But that’s a big ‘if’.
