Samaquias Lorta
Student Community Coordinator
Samaquias is originally from Idaho, USA but considers Berlin to be home after 5 years here. In the role of Student Community Coordinator Samaquias supports students in creating their own events and performances. Since September 2022, Lorta has coordinated between tutors and students multitudes of initiatives and community meet-ups that help facilitate academic learning with professional real-world experiences.
Samaquias is an alumnus of Catalyst, most of his industry experience being in sound design and audio editing for animation. But his talent doesn't end there! A highly active member of our community, Samaquias both performed and ran a workshop at Signals Festival '22 - and in October 2022 he played alongside the RSB Orchestra.
Lorta joined Catalyst for the diverse inclusive atmosphere the institution fosters. When not at work, Samaquias focuses on his artistic profiles which have an ethos of ecological thought, and hopes to pursue technological innovation in musical performance. His current research within sound art is exploring graphic notation, sonic notation and collaborative improvisation. Samaquias’ believes that life is the most fulfilling when community and friendship are present.
